Gary Lovelady: Licensed Insurance Agent & Estate Planning Consultant
I was raised on a grain and dairy farm in Parke County, Indiana. After graduating from high school in 1966, I served four years of active duty in the US Air Force. I met my wife, Nancy, while attending technical training school in Denver, Colorado. She, too, was from a farming background. We both were fortunate to have acquired good work ethics and a strong moral upbringing, from an early age. After a short courtship, Nancy and I became husband and wife on February 24, 1968.
After I completed tech school, I received orders for an eighteen-month tour on the island of Okinawa. Nancy would join me six months later. Our first child, Gregg, was born on Okinawa just one month before we were to return to the United States in January 1970. Although we thoroughly enjoyed our time on the island, I'll never forget the wonderful feeling I got when we were back on American soil. There truly is no place like home!
My next duty station was K.I. Sawyer AFB in the scenic Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Since Uncle Sam would not be furnishing family housing, I lived in the soldiers' barracks until I could obtain housing for the three of us. In the meantime, Nancy and our new son stayed with my parents in Indiana. It was a great time for everyone to get better acquainted. In order to set up housekeeping, it was necessary for me to find a part-time job. With my fluctuating hours in the military, finding part-time work turned out to be a daunting task. Eventually I took the only job I could find, selling vacuum cleaners door-to -door. Although door-to-door sales was difficult for me, it was the means to an end. After a few long months I was able to make enough extra money to get the housing we needed. We were finally living as a family again. It was an exciting time for Nancy and me.
After completing my military obligation, we eventually landed back home in Indiana. On March 23rd 1976, Nancy and I were blessed with the birth of our second child, a beautiful baby girl we named Nicole.
After the military, I refocused my sales career to estate and financial planning. This was a field I had much interest in, and remains my chosen profession today. I was fortunate to land a sales position with United Financial Corporation in Indianapolis, which is one of the nations largest estate and financial planning firms. After two years of continued education and a lot of hard work in the field, I was promoted to the Vice President of the Estate Planning Division over a five state area. My new position required that I work out of the corporate office seventy miles from home. So, Nancy and I decided it would be better to locate closer to work. Just before Christmas, in 2004, we moved to our new home in beautiful Mooresville, Indiana where we reside today.
On January 1, 2009, Nancy and I opened our own business, Legacy Estate Services, LLC. We are a family owned business, serving over one thousand clients throughout the state of Indiana.
Our mission is to bring honesty and integrity to estate and financial planning issues that make sense to our Clients.
